A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. UTIs are more common in women than men because women have a shorter urethra, which makes it easier for bacteria to enter the urinary tract.

The most common symptoms of a UTI in women are:

Frequent urination
Pain or burning when urinating
Cloudy or bloody urine
Pain in the lower back or abdomen
Fever or chills
If you think you have a UTI, it is important to see a doctor right away. UTIs can be easily treated with antibiotics, but if left untreated, they can lead to more serious complications, such as kidney infection.

Here are some tips to help prevent UTIs:

Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
Wipe from front to back after using the bathroom.
Avoid using scented soaps and douches.
Go to the bathroom as soon as you feel the urge to urinate.
If you are sexually active, urinate before and after sex.
If you have a history of UTIs, talk to your doctor about ways to reduce your risk.
